Mr. Robert Wilby Evans, 89, Rochester, passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Hickory Creek of Rochester.

On March 16, 1928, Robert Wilby Evans was born in South Bend. He was a treasured son of Wilby G. and Rethal Irene Beehler Evans. Growing up, he shared his childhood with five brothers. As a Richland Center Wildcat, Bob graduated with the Class of 1947. During his high school years, he played basketball.

In Rochester, on July 11, 1948, Bob and Norma J. Bitterling were married. They shared 45 years of life's adventures. From their union came two beautiful daughters, Sherry and Christina.

With a strong work ethic, Bob worked for the McMahon-O'Connor Construction Company, primarily in the shop, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Richland Center IOOF Lodge for more than 60 years. Bob was an avid and accomplished bowler.

Left to cherish the memory of Bob are his special friend, Regina Roberts, Nappanee; four brothers, Gerald C. Evans and wife Juanita, Columbia City, Larry W. Evans, Rochester, David L. Evans, Florida, and Mick Evans and wife Judy, Rochester; sister-in-law Roberta Evans, Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Norma on Jan. 2, 1993; two daughters, Christina J. Swango and Sherry L. Rogers; brother Gene Evans; and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Joan Evans and Joanie Evans.

A public graveside service for Robert W. Evans will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Pastor Mike Van Heyningen will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Cancer Fund through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, 715 Main St., Rochester, IN 46975.
