Maxine A. Yater

Maxine A. Yater, 93, passed away at home on Aug. 14, 2017.
She was born on July 21, 1924, in Fulton to the late James and Lorene (Kern) Baird. After Mrs. Yater graduated from Fulton High School, she went on to graduate from beauty college in Fort Wayne. She was a hairdresser at Lutheran Homes for more than 17 years. While working at the South Side Grill, she met her husband of nearly 74 wonderful years Joseph Yater. They attended Liberty Mills Church of the Nazarene and lived lives to reveal Jesus to everyone. She played the piano at church for more than 50 years.
She was a member of the Rescue Missions Women's Auxiliary, Christian Business Women, and Southmore Mother's Singers.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two wonderful children, Ronald Joe (Jan) Yater, Martinsville; and Beverly Jane (Harold) Ditmer, Fort Wayne. She is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Sharon Baird; and brother Charles Baird.
Maxine met her 108-year-old mother at the gates of heaven. She was also preceded in passing by her great-grandson, Adam DeLacy.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Liberty Mills Church of the Nazarene, 10621 Liberty Mills Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior and the Rev. Wes Ball officiating. Visitation will also be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Entombment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
